Re-entering the Workforce
When questions about your absence arise... Questions about why you've been absent from the work force are bound to come up as you meet potential employers. When they do, answer them honestly and proudly (assuming you had reason to be proud of what you previously devoted your time to). Make good eye contact, speak in a firm voice, and highlight the skills gained along with you fresh perspective on the particular career you’re going after. Dealing with rejection... Know that it is a number’s game you’re playing and don’t take the rejection personally. Take a chance and ask one of your rejecters for specific reasons why you were not selected. It may be something you’ve overlooked that could be easily corrected. Reduce the number of rejections you'll get by catering to the employers who will understand your particular reason for leaving the workforce (e.g., if you left for family reasons, pursue employment at family-friendly organizations).
